Professional Master`s Degree

Introduction

Dentists work in a variety of ways in the healthcare field, the best-known being in clinics and offices. On the other hand, their work with dental product and equipment companies, as scientific consultants, lecturers and technical managers in the development and evaluation of products, is little explored. Furthermore, the work of these professionals with public and/or private healthcare services is extremely important to offer better quality treatment.

Given the many areas in which dentists work, it is necessary for them to train and update their knowledge on trends in the dental market. The best option for training dentists is to complete a stricto sensu graduate course, with emphasis on a professional master`s degree. This course provides training for masters, who will have full technical and scientific conditions to work as professors, lecturers, scientific consultants, research methodologists and technical managers in the development and evaluation of products.

Objectives

General Objectives

History

The Professional Master`s Degree in Dental Sciences at Uniara was proposed after extensive reflection by the Higher Education Institution, taking advantage of the growing incentive for Scientific Initiation, with the involvement of its faculty. In 2010, it was approved by CAPES, and began in March 2011. Over the course of years, the program`s proposal was improved, focusing on training a master`s degree holder with a solid foundation in scientific methodology, teaching, and interdisciplinary clinical practice with an emphasis on technology and scientific innovation.

Technical and scientific production is increasing with the development of projects, including products and patent filings. There is consolidation of research lines and scientific publications and book chapters involving faculty and undergraduate and graduate students with interdisciplinary clinical and laboratory research. In 2016, with a view to developing research, a partnership was initiated with researchers from the Departments of Oral Cell Biology and Periodontics at the Academisch Centrum Tandheelkunde Amsterdam - ACTA (Netherlands). Additionally, the Master`s in Dental Sciences provided international courses with professors from the University of Michigan and the University of Texas, both in the United States.

In the same year, the CEREC - Dentsply-Sirona equipment was acquired, with which the research project "Evaluation of the adaptation and fracture resistance of hybrid CAD/CAM crowns on a titanium base and Exact Universal Abutment" was initiated. In 2017, we acquired the FormLabs 3D printer to carry out studies in virtual planning and guided surgery, with the aim of conducting research with new technologies proposed in Dentistry.

In 2017, we started a program on Rádio Uniara, with a weekly presentation to clarify dental treatments for the population of Araraquara and region.

We currently have partnerships with the companies Dabi Atlante (Pross), Conexão Sistemas de Implantes, SIN, Procell, Geistlich, Neodent, Renova and Bioparts. These partnerships are already beginning to bear fruit, with the development of theses, products, and patents.

In order to encourage interaction between undergraduate and graduate students, the Program has started a Teaching Project with an active methodology, called PIC-Odonto, developed and taught by master`s students to undergraduate students in an extracurricular manner. This project aims to stimulate teaching and research, promotes the construction of knowledge, and the development of skills and attitudes considered important for effective professional practice for undergraduate and postgraduate students. This project envisions the beginning of a line of research in teaching that began with a PIBIC project and an international partnership with the doctorate in Educational Sciences at Universidad Gran Asunción, Pedro Juan Caballero Branch, where we will act as the host of the research and co-supervision of the thesis. The program`s faculty members were responsible for creating and continue to coordinate the Institution`s Animal Experimentation Ethics Committee and Biological Research Center (BIOTÉRIO), promoting research throughout the university.

The Institution has been accredited with two more Master`s Program and two Doctorate Programs, totaling 6 Master`s Programs and 2 Doctorate Programs offered by Uniara. The institution has been increasingly consolidating its research presence, and, in 2016, it changed from a University Center to a University.
